| My memories of childhood include dancing around the living room and putting on dance shows for my family. Following an embarrassing moment for my bigger sister when I got up and joined in her class during watching week, my mother asked what was the minimum aged that I could join and, to her delight, and of course mine, I only had to wait a few months.
My formative training was at the Madelaine Kelly School of Dancing, Wargrave, where I studied ballet and modern dance. Over the years I have completed all my RAD Ballet and ISTD Modern examinations. I have participated in several festivals, workshops and local amateur dramatic performances. Roles range from an Indian in Peter Pan, Can Can Girl in Old Mother Hubbard and a Power Ranger!! I was also lucky enough to be chosen to dance on the ITV1 show Everybody Dance Now in 2008.
I graduated from Surrey University in June 2004 with a BA (Hons) degree in Dance and Culture studies. Since then I have worked as a freelance dance teacher in both the private and public sectors. In addition to teaching ballet, modern and tap I also teach GCSE and A level dance. This is very important to me as it helps to promote all aspects of dance and encourages a wider appreciation of all dance genres. Alongside my teaching I am currently studying for my ISTD Certificate in Dance Education teaching exams.
I thoroughly enjoy my work and am indebted to my mother for taking me to dance classes as a child. Dancing has greatly increased my confidence and given me many fantastic opportunities and I feel very fortunate to be following a vocation which I truly love. |
